Are you optimized? If this sounds like an odd question, then you may not be doing your site justice. Website optimization is crucial to the survival of websites these days. Since everyone wants to be on the top search engine spot, those sites that are not optimized don’t really stand much of a chance. What is optimization? How can you gain it? What do you need to achieve it? Can it be done on your own? Are keywords all that you’ll need? All of these questions can be easily answered. Let’s begin with the basic definition of optimization.

Website optimization refers to the way that a site is placed within a particular search engine. Those sites that have been optimized often enjoy top search engine placement spots. Those sites that are not optimized tend to become forgotten and rejected. How can this be? You see, those sites that don’t include any SEO optimization tools are never picked up by search engines. This means that those sites are hardly ever seen by the public. Why? Well, think about the way that you search the internet.

If you are like most people, you probably only pay attention to those top spots too.
What are the top spots? When you search for a particular keyword, the sites that pop up first are considered within the “top spots.” Most people only pay attention to these sites, and hardly anyone will bother to search beyond them. Of course, this also means that numerous websites are all vying for that top spot. So, in order to remain in the running, you have to find a way to stay within that top position – not a simple task. The best way to go about sticking to the top positions is to hire a marketing company that uses various website optimization techniques.

Internet marketing companies constantly keep their clients on the top of the heap through various methods. These methods change frequently, though the basic idea remains the same: grab and keep the attention of search engines. If this can be attained, then a site will likely gain lots of new and repeat traffic. Is your site optimized? If not, you are probably missing out on a lot of business. Your site can easily gain the attention of the average internet user if those search engines deem your site important. Invest in a great marketing company, and you’ll see what a difference website optimization makes.

In a weighting an average of Google PR (which can’t be completely ignored) and mozRank, we’ve had good luck determining SERPs competitiveness and page strength with this formula:

    * Turn off personalized search, to the greatest extent possible. Search is the unfortunate wildcard.
* Search for a target keyword for evaluation of SERPs competitiveness.
* Average the PageRank and mozRank of the top 5 Google organic results, including Universal Search results into an aggregate number. (((Result 1 PR   mR) / 2)   ((Result 2 (PR*.4)   (mR*1.6)) / 2)   ((Result 3 (PR*.4)   (mR*1.6)) / 2)   ((Result 4(PR*.4)   (mR*1.6)) / 2)   ((Result 5 (PR*.4)   (mR*1.6))/ 2))) /5 = SERPs Competitiveness Index for the Keyword
* Compare that 0-10 number with 2 decimal places to the averaged PageRank and mozRank for the Page Strength of the page you’re trying to rank in the SERPs
* If the page strength is above the Competitiveness index, then the page has a decent shot at ranking.
* We use various method to predict the future page strength, by evaluating the history of similar pages in the site hierarchy. We’ll save that for another post.

Alright, I figured I’d address this issue before it became more widely discussed (already grumbling in the forums) – and post an official SEOiQ vs. SiteSeer Challenge now.

As background: The other day a Super Affiliate Friend of mine (who shall remain nameless) informed me via conference call that he had tested out StomperNet’s SiteSeer (or “Site Seer”) application and she/he was flabbergasted at how “mediocre” it was compared to our new SEOiQ Diagnostic Test (in front of 20+ other Affiliate friends of ours) – and was amazed ours had not gone ‘mainstream’ yet.

Naturally, I figured he was simply exaggerating and stroking my ego, so I went to StomperNet to see exactly what all the hype was truly about. Unfortunately, I was met with a lot of ’shiny pennies’ and glitzy effects – and quite honestly not much substance. (I had to mute my machine after 30 seconds of the techno music from their video intro/sales piece.)

I’ve always wondered how programs/systems/applications get so popular. Clearly, salesmanship is more important than functionality, my friends (case in point).

Seriously our SEOiQ Tool blew StomperNet away…it wasn’t even a fair fight.

Upon first glance all the glitzy graphics and futuristic image transitions will impress/please the eye – see a screenshot of the SiteSeer welcome page eye candy (and I use that term loosely, unless you think web design peaked with Microsoft’s first iteration of the XBOX brand site back in 2001) below:

I have to hand it to the StomperNet folks, they truly know how to do create high value video/audio productions, but their collective ability to build a great SEO diagnostic tool needs much to be desired.

In comparison our SEOintelligence Homepage is simple and cleanly laid out:

Next step in the process is to check out the SiteSeer Tool input form. Here’s a screenshot:

Compare that to our SEOiQ Diagnostic Tool input form process to SiteSeer’s (they have almost identical inputs!) — see SEO isn’t that complicated :

Below are the (IMHO – lame) results from the SiteSeer diagnostic test series – long winded and very difficult to interpret (in comparison to the graphical and easy to understand SEOiQ Test ):

Now let’s compare the SEOiQ Diagnostic test results and accompanying SEOi Toolset’s highly prescriptive results – see below:

As you can see the SEOiQ results are not ‘buried’ in a ton of rhetorical SEO 101 copy/text, instead they are all displayed in easy to read charts for simple comparison and analysis…(covering onpage and off page topics including: site structure, social networks, readability and popular search engine index stats and many more) – some other SEO diagnostic tests simply “can’t handle the truth” – ehhh hemmm.

I respect the StomperNet Team – but a spade is a spade.

This week Jeremy and I are going to start pulling back the curtain just a bit, showing a few select screenshots from SEOintelligence.com.

The first up is our SEOiQ Testing Center — one of the centerpieces of SEOi. From the Testing Center, you can input up to three competitor site URL’s to measure your own site’s SEOiQ (a score generated by an algorithm that encompasses PageRank, backlinks, Compete.com scores, Technorati rank, and a series of other proprietary measures of site search engine ranking strength).

After the jump, your first screenshot of one part of the SEOiQ Testing Center results page.

As promised, the SEOiQ Testing Center lets you compare your site’s PageRank, Backlinks, total pages indexed, Compete Rank, Alexa Rank, and Technorati Rank — all from one easy-to-read interface. Get a quick overview of how your site stacks up against your closest competitors, or just see how you measure against the leaders in your industry. And like I said in the intro — this is just one part of the SEOiQ results set; on this same page, you’ll also be able to see how you stack up on specific keywords (up to 7 at a time).

There are so many aspects of SEOi that we’re excited to share with all of you. But I must say, the SEOiQ Testing Center is way up my list of favorite parts of the app. I suspect it will quickly grow to be one of your favorites as well.

More SEOi Sneak Previews soon to follow. For now I encourage you to check out the SEOiQ Testing Center to find out your score today!

Training a algorithm? is that his Dogs name? Okay, it may sound funny – but that is exactly what we have been doing for our SEOiQ Diagnostic Test and Scoring System. It sounds a lot more complicated than it truly is, but in a nutshell we have trained a Neural Network in MATLAB using NNTool (Neural Network Toolbox) to tweak/muscle/tune/mold and eventually complete our SEOiQ Algorithm.

We ran into many issues during testing and implementation (not all have been resolved – cough cough) and this ws my first time with this complex of a MATLAB project. So I learned a ton working with different layer weights and biases + tweaking the network schema, plus hundreds of other complexities I won’t dare to bore you with.

Then the real fun started after analyzing the 1000+ pieces of sample data, we had to then convert our crazy Matlab simulation program to C# – and have it read all the various inputs with 100% accuracy, pass proper parameters and give the output instantly? (sounds like a killer Saturday night right? especially when you’re at 62% confidence and the simulation stalls – LOL)

This was quite a challenge in hindsight, and not what I thought it would be – a journey. I’m certainly glad we were patient and all participants took our time (including myself) – Honestly we were close to abandoning the idea for the sheer complexity of the problems encountered vs. benefit. But, now we are very happy, and SEOiQ Algo testing is in its final stages!

Please Note: the SEOiQ Diagnostic Test is fully functional, but you may encounter intermittent scores, and ‘o’ – blank scores while we continue testing.

I wanted to give a shout out to Rohit! You are the SEOiQ Algo Guru!!!

What is SEOintelligence.com?
SEOintelligence.com is the easiest and most comprehensive hosted SEO toolset available. We enable the average web publisher, ecommerce merchant, blogger, web entrepreneur and almost anyone the ability to dramatically increase their rankings and web presence. SEOintelligence.com was born out of the need for a good hosted SEO Toolset that delivered easy to understand charting and SEO Diagnostics. Our proprietary SEOiQ scoring algorithm will allow you to track the progress and ability for the Search Engines to find you!

Who is behind SEOintelligence.com?
The idea came from Jeremy Hermanns and Kyle Bunch, two Web Entrepreneurs who have been working together for over 5 years. Kyle and Jeremy needed a SEO toolset that they could use to manage their ever growing set of new projects, and existing ecommerce and web publishing properties. After using a bunch of competing software the two embarked on “one-upping” the industry and developing a superior solution on their own.

Why can these guys do it?
Well it’s simple – experience.

Jeremy Hermanns has been in the SEO/PPC space for almost 6 years. He once worked at a small company called Overture/Goto and was a PPC Keyword Category Analyst, he took that skill set and later became the Director of Search Engine Marketing for TribalDDB (a division of DDB-Omnicom). Jeremy has since worked with over 50+ Fortune 500 Top Search Engine Clientele. Having Managed over 250+ SEO/SEM clients in his career, Jeremy know what it takes to rank on difficult search terms and large complex hosting platforms. Jeremy has dedicated the past year of his life to developing SEOintelligence, and is determined to provide the BEST SEO Toolset available anywhere.

Kyle Bunch co-founded Blogebrity — the site dedicated to covering the exploits of blogging’s A-list — with Jeremy Hermanns in 2005. Since then, he’s served as Publisher and occasional Guest Editor, blogging about blogging with great aplomb while exploring new levels of meta. To balance the inherent geekiness of those two jobs, Bunch satiates his appetite for sports as Co-Editor and Publisher of TrojanWire and contributor at AOL’s USC FanHouse, writing about athletics at his alma mater, the Unversity of Southern California. Kyle is currently a Senior Producer at R/GA in New York City.
