John Dvorak writes all the time and proclaims his ignorance proudly – this tho is perhaps one of the most ignorant articles in regards to SEO I have also read in quite a while (thanks Aaron Wall!).

John writes:

Search engine optimization (SEO) has turned into a big business, and from what I can tell it’s the modern version of snake oil. The unproven nonsense spewed by so-called “SEO experts” simply doesn’t work. And worse, it’s screwing up the elegance of the Web.

Aaron Wall ’s rebuttal:

Unlike John Dvorak, professional SEOs do not need to lie and pull sleazy tricks to get “hits”… we rank for high value keywords and turn that traffic stream into real business. His publishing strategy is so inauthentic and cheesy that he writes by number.

And now the video!

This guy Dvorak doesn’t have a clue – friggin foolio, I would love to debate his view on SEO – jimminy crickets.

Have a read of Aaron Wall’s latest post, he’s a pretty good ER friend of mine. Aaron simply outlines his views on the future of search, and he makes a number of important points – see a quote below and then go to his amazing site SEOBook.

Social networks, blogs, Twitter etc indicate a move away from the webmaster as signaler of importance i.e. who you choose to link out to. The search engines will need to mine the social signals form those networks. The user will signal where their attention is focused by their interaction and paths.

Universal search, in may cases, has pushed results listings down below the fold. For example, to get a client seen high up on the results page may involve making sure making sure they are featured on Google Maps. Similarly, if they have video content, it should be placed on YouTube. Google have shown they are increasingly looking to the aggregators for results and featuring their content in prominent positions.

We are very excited, and think this is long overdue – but well received by the SEO and SEM community. For many years, the guidelines have been vaguely construed from Google’s EULA and other Policies – but now to have SEO framework established from Google itself is awesome.

Here is a sample of what is inside the newly released guide:

Welcome to Google’s Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide. This document first began as an effort to help teams within Google, but we thought it’d be just as useful to webmasters that are new to the topic of search engine optimization and wish to improve their sites’ interaction with both users and search engines. Although this guide won’t tell you any secrets that’ll automatically rank your site first for queries in Google (sorry!), following the best practices outlined below will make it easier for search engines to both crawl and index your content.

We are providing a un-edited free download of the guide here for our SEOi Readers and Users! Enjoy:

Please be careful when reading feedback about SEO Elite on other sites. We have unwillingly discovered that many of the below comments praising SEO Elite are fake. You can read more about the drama here at BidJuice.

Why I Do Not Recommend SEO Elite to my SEOi Customers
Honestly back in the day, I used to recommend and be a affiliate of Brad Callen’s SEO Elite, but due to evolving search algorithms placing more emphasis on trust, site age and usage data I believe that simply analyzing links or diving into simple site relationships has little value.

Top 20 SEO Elite Queries we are seeing:
- seo elite
- seoelite
- seo elite software
- seo elite review
- elite keyword seo
- buy seo elite
- seo elite 4
- seo elite 4.0
- seo elite crack
- seo elite forum
- seo elite reviews
- seo elite discount
- seo review
- seo elite free
- seo elite 4 crack
- seo reviews
- seo elite 3.2 download
- brad callen seo elite
- seo elite com
- seo elit

Why Affiliates Push SEO Elite :

You will see that there are literally 100’s of Affiliates recommending SEO Elite with “stellar” reviews – convincing people that you make over $70 per sale to simply recommend it – DON’T BUY THE HYPE!

I want to remind everyoene that the best way to build true quality links is with human editorial involvement, no automated software package can help you automate the process 100%. To the contrary, SEO Elite is a big distraction and can give you poor – if not harmful linking advice! (Content – Content – Content)

Back in the early 2000’s and late 1990’s when the Search algorithms were less intuitive this was useful software, but in no way would I recommend buying it today.

SEM Rush vs Compete.com

The big value add that SEM Rush has over a tool like Compete.com is that SEM Rush adds cost per click estimates (scraped from Google’s Traffic Estimator tool) and estimated traffic volumes (from the Google AdWords keyword tool) near each keyword. Thus, rather than showing the traffic distribution to each site, this tool can list keyword value distribution for the sites (keyword value * estimated traffic).

Linking out is a valuable marketing strategy on a number of levels.

It increases the utility of your site. People will see you as being helpful. People will see you as non-partisan i.e. not always favoring your own stuff. Webmasters may see your inbound link in their logs and follow them back to you. Links are, at the most fundamental level, a connection between people.

If you’ve read something about the HITS algorithm (.pdf), you may have noticed that HITS looks for, and evaluates, both authority and hub pages. i.e. pages that contain multiple links out to authority pages. HITS stands for “hypertext induced topic selection”, and, like PageRank, is concerned with link graph analysis.
